Fractional CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing
CO2 Laser of the facial area has been performed by physicians and dermatologists for a long time. One of the problems with the older procedure was the length of time needed for recovery. Today’s new lasers provide the same results as the older machines but with much less recovery time. The new, updated version of CO2 laser is Fractional CO2 Laser.
How is Fractional CO2 Laser Different?
If you could imagine a glass covered table top, in the original CO2 laser resurfacing, you would take off the complete glass top, or in our case the entire top layer of skin, exposing the entire underneath layers of the skin. When we use fractional CO2 laser, it’s a computer driven procedure where thousands of little holes are driven into the skin at the same depth as the full CO2 laser, but it leaves normal skin in-between the little tiny microscopic holes. The great part is that now complete recovery is in three to five days instead of several weeks of recovery time.
Once the procedure has been done, you will be sent home with instructions to keep the area treated moist with Aquafor or petroleum jelly. It is best to stay indoors for several days and avoid any sun exposure. Some bruising or swelling may occur but will soon fade.
What Results Can You Expect?
The procedure is ideal for eliminating fine wrinkles, acne scarring and tightening of the skin. It can be done as an isolated procedure but is often done in combination with other facial procedures such as a face lift, eye lift or rhinoplasty. The Fractional CO2 procedure can be performed by Dr. William Silver in the office using a little sedation and local anesthesia.
Anyone who has had fractional CO2 laser procedure will tell you that the results are amazing. Skin texture and tone are improved, fine lines and wrinkles disappear, your skin looks like the skin of a young person!
